Hearts long for shelter

For comfort in peaceful refuge

Often in the arms of another

In a place where true love provides and keeps safe

Where life and goodness is honored,

Where one is always built up by another.

So many times

In the darting eyes of my restless youth

Yearning and desire confused within real need,

Memory in hindsight portrays more clearly

Lays out plainly truer intentions, weaknesses

Missed opportunities, in sadness,

Chances to honor another forever lost…

Though later forgiveness and prayers chased after,

Then discouragement piled more on the already heavy load,

The heart tried to carry what is was not able to,

Unnatural depression schemed within

A numbness and lack of will followed;

Later, on a new day, miraculously a Savior was shown

Salvation was somehow made known

Life revealed as light where there was none.

Many years pass by and old memories still freshly dance about

A long list of names and circumstances,

So many faces, others with hearts and souls bared,

Nakedness met with empty eyes, a helpless mechanical stare.

About Gary Bertnick

I was a Minnesota teenager in the late 1960's. I was drafted into the military after an intense time at an engineering school. As a graduate chemical engineer and former athlete, I became a Marine Corps private. The Lord spoke to me through a friend while visiting Rapid City,S.D. My true discipleship began in Southern California and was boosted through association with Morris Cerullo Ministry and others. I fed upon the Scriptures and have learned to be led by the Holy Spirit. I know what the fear of the Lord is. What I write is done to honor the Lord and to touch the lives of those who know Him as well as those who should.
