Quiet moments, late night and early morning

Alone with God, and a cat named Gizmo

Pet for affection who quietly stares and waits

His example, his simple vigil in the night

Window to chair, to couch to floor, back to the window

Alert, watchful Himalayan.

Another servant sees through the night

Early morning prayers

And a short walk up the Holy Mountain

Presence of the Throne, the most Holy Mountain

Where the prophets of old Israel dwelt

And remain,

Presence of the only Throne, presence of the Holy God.

My Creator too calls, my heart answers

Spirit fully born into grace,

Mercy sprinkled generously about, sprinkled within

Even as whitest snow covers the ground

Blankets all that sleeps, that enters winter’s rest.

A few moments alone, but never lonely

Timelessness set apart to embrace Heaven’s new fire

Eternal warmth renews within,

Cold of the earth a passing thing, much as the body,

Sun soon to rise.

King David would awaken the dawn with songs of worship

Sweetest fellowship of loving moments;

Prayers of refined incense offered

Jasmine, frankincense, myrrh and nard, and much more

Aroma of the Son to the Father;

Oh, to ascend the Holy Mountain born to our world through Israel,

Then to descend once more into Earth’s valley

To learn to continually look to the face of our God.

About Gary Bertnick

I was a Minnesota teenager in the late 1960's. I was drafted into the military after an intense time at an engineering school. As a graduate chemical engineer and former athlete, I became a Marine Corps private. The Lord spoke to me through a friend while visiting Rapid City,S.D. My true discipleship began in Southern California and was boosted through association with Morris Cerullo Ministry and others. I fed upon the Scriptures and have learned to be led by the Holy Spirit. I know what the fear of the Lord is. What I write is done to honor the Lord and to touch the lives of those who know Him as well as those who should.
