As one who wanders this earth

In search of treasures,

Wealth and fame, the desires of youth

Youtube and twitter wealth, and facebook fame,

Purpose and meaning in existence

Age old questions found unanswered.

The mind seems to drive us forward

A hard journey, a forced march

Burden to carry becomes moreso,

The heart cries out often

Intellect confuses;

Wisdom of a man along a winding country road that never ends,

Passes fields that begin to look the same,

Religions based on human effort, feed the pride

Laws and rules and conjured spirituality,

Dark forces seduce and deceive

Dark forces crush the innocently scented blossoms with sexual crudeness,

Trample the reverence for life with false abstractions

Insensitive, sensuous leaps of delusion.

After much, too much the heart finally bows in honest humility

A crushed spirit, brokenness;

Hands reach upwards

The mouth cries out for the God of truth and life,

For a God who hears, who is near

For God who cares for us all.

About Gary Bertnick

I was a Minnesota teenager in the late 1960's. I was drafted into the military after an intense time at an engineering school. As a graduate chemical engineer and former athlete, I became a Marine Corps private. The Lord spoke to me through a friend while visiting Rapid City,S.D. My true discipleship began in Southern California and was boosted through association with Morris Cerullo Ministry and others. I fed upon the Scriptures and have learned to be led by the Holy Spirit. I know what the fear of the Lord is. What I write is done to honor the Lord and to touch the lives of those who know Him as well as those who should.

  1. Yes, and the churches continue to fail us…social clubs at best, and at worse-where they “practice their craft”. (Book of Daniel).
    I enjoy your poetry, I wrote a Kindle Book which you can find the link on my website-
