Discouragement and depression as intruders

Deceitful, cunning intruders

Predators on the hunt,

Relentless search to muddy clear waters

To foul up a mountain spring,

Fresh water from the new clean snow melt

High up where the anointing glows,

A powerful mantle of conviction,

Worship and joy easily flows

Gladness in life, joy in simply being alive in Him.

Ah, but the narrow trail to the valley below,

A human life to be daily lived out

Ambushes set nearly every other step

Vile barrage of thoughts and mental images forced,

Heavy pull on the soul concerning money

And all common earthly needs.

Sharp, invisible finger pointing

The “accuser” foments guilt and shame

Weariness throws its arms about the body and soul,

Drags it slowly along.

Finally, Holy Scripture spoken, becomes a most beautiful fountain

Prayer in the Spirit gushes up

The battle is waged

And the winner stands fearless, free once more;

All “intruders” slink, slither away until the next opportune moment,

The next inevitable challenge to the eternal victory long ago, already won.

About Gary Bertnick

I was a Minnesota teenager in the late 1960's. I was drafted into the military after an intense time at an engineering school. As a graduate chemical engineer and former athlete, I became a Marine Corps private. The Lord spoke to me through a friend while visiting Rapid City,S.D. My true discipleship began in Southern California and was boosted through association with Morris Cerullo Ministry and others. I fed upon the Scriptures and have learned to be led by the Holy Spirit. I know what the fear of the Lord is. What I write is done to honor the Lord and to touch the lives of those who know Him as well as those who should.
