Good seed scattered on the ground

Smiles and satisfaction with expectations

Long and hard rows worked with diligence

Hearts given over to a worthy harvest

The best, the first offered as thanksgiving to the true Lord,

King of heaven and earth.

Joy settles in with confidence as the sun sets on another long day,

In the new morning hope rises once more in strength

Long strides head to the fields

Sprouts seen even from a distance;

Then, the heart suddenly sinks,

Scattered along the good seed,

Mysteriously here and there, up and down the rows

Weeds emerge!

What should not be there!

Old friends who really loved themselves more,

A neighbor who smiled often, but held a drawn sword,

Encouraging words, smooth as oil from a sincere voice on the television,

But later they betray,

A double-minded pastor once trusted,

Another friend who walked as a brother faded into the world

Times of testing wore out another who turned her back,

Fear and greed and hidden things became pitfalls to many others,

Lukewarm perseverance,

Love for pleasure in America,

Hunger for money, thirst for wealth;

And coldly many walked away in discouragement

Turned from the treasures of heaven’s revelations

Embraced a lesser love and turned away.

Compassion cries in sadness

The heart stands broken with family, friends, those admired from a distance.

The fields of struggle, full of unexpected things

Hands can only reach out as prayers lift up

Only the mind of Christ can understand

Only the Spirit of Yeshua can comfort,

Then an angelic presence walks into the vision

They speak kind words of encouragement,

Written words are rediscovered, reread,

Wisdom is sharpened

Love is refreshed

Peace settles once more.

In the end all will be sorted out,

Those called will be carried to victory

Those chosen will stand strong always

And an all knowing Lord will sit as Judge,

A King winnowing all things with His eyes.

About Gary Bertnick

I was a Minnesota teenager in the late 1960's. I was drafted into the military after an intense time at an engineering school. As a graduate chemical engineer and former athlete, I became a Marine Corps private. The Lord spoke to me through a friend while visiting Rapid City,S.D. My true discipleship began in Southern California and was boosted through association with Morris Cerullo Ministry and others. I fed upon the Scriptures and have learned to be led by the Holy Spirit. I know what the fear of the Lord is. What I write is done to honor the Lord and to touch the lives of those who know Him as well as those who should.
